Getting tired of that old dingy light fixture hanging up there on your ceiling? Maybe it’s time to get rid of the old and install a new style lighting fixture. Recently a friend of mine bought a new house. She disliked the older seventies style lights installed in all the rooms. So she purchased some new contemporary style lighting for her new home. Gladly I assisted her with installing the new lights. There are several different types of fixtures out there. Incandescent fixtures use filament light bulbs. Fluorescent bulbs work too within these fixtures, you know, the energy saving screw in type. Then there are the strictly Fluorescent type of fixtures. Primarily we will deal with incandescent style fixtures for this article. Fluorescent types are similar, yet a bit more involved. So here we go gang.
While installing kitchen pendant lighting, you would want to ensure that you install them at the right height. Placing them too high would lose the great focus that pendant lights are capable of producing, and placing them too low would obstruct your movements as well as potentially dazzle your eyes. You need to strike the right balance between the two. The convention that tends to work the best is to fit the kitchen lighting around three to three-and-a-half feet above the table tops and islands. This gives just about the right brightness. Since the tables would lie directly below the pendants, people would not walk through those places and as a result free movement of your family members will not be obstructed.
These lighting fixtures are sometimes available in antique shops and are priced highly. A few of them, like Smoke and Bells, made in 1870, have created an impact on our society. The upper shade of the light fixture is a smoke bell, intended to diffuse smoke that might have drifted from gas flames. Tasso Sconce a single-light fixture has an old brass finish, with a Beaux Arts shade. Moose Antlers was made in 1850. It is a two-tier fixture has eight lights. It is a five feet wide masterpiece.
A new and chic fixture that is becoming increasingly popular is known as the pendant light. This particular fixture is available in a wide range of styles and designs. There are a wide variety of brand names to choose from, and most of the styling leans toward simplicity with trendy themes in mind. The pendant lights are decorative fixtures that hang by a chain or cord, and are available in a broad diversity of materials that include brass, crystal, or even pewter glass. The fixtures are also offered in an assortment of textured finishes including weathered coverings to match any décor. These gorgeous home accessories offer a stylish yet retro finish to any home, and are able to accent all items from mirrors and photo frames to cushions and throws.
In a way, pendant lighting for your home can be very much like a pendant on your necklace. It can be pretty as a precious jewel, and just like the sparkles on a beautiful gemstone, it can be a source of additional light and beautiful illumination. Versatile, functional and eye-catching, pendant lights can serve as utility fixtures as well as accent pieces to any room in your home.
